The 19th annual Orange Plaza Car Show is coming up on April 21, 2013 from 8:00 am-3:00 pm here in Old Towne Orange!! Admission is free, and all proceeds raised will be distributed by Orange Sunrise Rotary Club to help fund community service projects in the City of Orange, local projects to support and increase vocational and business skills, and education and literacy programs for youth and adults. This means parking will be difficult for our Sunday service, so get here early and join us for Sunday School!!
The City of Orange, will be turning 125 years old on April 6, 2013!
On April 6, we will be closing the Old Towne Plaza, to vehicle traffic.
At 12 p.m. the party will start with live music, a children’s activity area, carnival games, and face painting. Our local non-profits will be selling food and the Orange Fire Department will be firing up the BBQ (no pun intended), and providing hot dogs and chips for only $1. At 1 p.m. our Old Towne Churches will ring their bells as the City Council leads a marching band down Glassell St. We will recognize the “Oldest” of Orange, including oldest business, resident, service organization, and more. The grand finale, of course, will be the ceremonial “Cutting of the Birthday Cake” and birthday treats for the crowd (while they last,) and a community photo. Residents are encouraged to wear orange clothing and say, “Cheese!” The festivities in the Plaza will continue until 2:30 p.m. The Orange Public Library and History Center will present a program on the special history of Orange from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Tomorrow evening we have an excellent opportunity to connect with our neighbors here in Old Towne Orange. We will be gathering into groups and hitting the streets with invites to our Easter service.
If the idea of knocking on doors makes you nervous, let me offer a few reasons why your mind can be at ease:
- God is with you
- The goal is to get a flyer into their hands or on their doorstep
- You'll be in a group
It's a simple gesture, but God uses small instances to enact big change. Tomorrow could be an important step in the life of a person who doesn't believe or who has wandered away. We want to be available that God may use us!
Here are the details:
Meet at the church office tomorrow at 6:00pm (307 E. Chapman Ave., Suite 400, Orange, CA)
Teams of 4-6 are divided up and given a map with the blocks they'll be in charge of
Pray as you walk
When you're finished, head home
If you have any questions please e-mail Dustin Smetona at dustin@sovgraceoc.org.
Thank you for loving and serving our city!
This Saturday evening a group from the church will be meeting to invite folks from the community to join us at our Easter service. God has so kindly welcomed us into His family and we want to make opportunities to extend that kind of welcome to others. The more who come, the more people we can reach. If you'd like to join, here are the pertinent details:

Thanks for loving our city!
Cities have rhythms...busy times, quiet times, times of celebration and times of contemplation. Seasons play a part. Holidays play a part. School schedules too.
Our city celebrates Easter.
Even if they don't understand what the church is celebrating. Even if they don't believe what we believe. Still families will gather, business will close, and people will feast.
Some will visit a church.
Let's be the church where our city feels welcome to stop in and hear the Good News of the Resurrection! Let's preach the gospel to the lost on Sunday, March 31st!
Three ways we can work together:
- Pick up some Easter invites on Sunday and distribute them to your friends, coworkers, classmates, supermarket checkout guys, barristas, barber, massage therapist, tattoo artist, coach, landscaper, landlord, neighbor, teacher, clients, and awkward gym buddies.
- Replace your Facebook cover photo with an easter invite (Click here.)
- Distribute flyers door-to-door on Saturday evening, March 30th, 6:00pm. We'll meet outside the church offices, break into groups, and canvas the neighborhoods.
This Saturday, Feb 23, the Orange Senior Center will be serving All-You-Can-Eat-Pancakes. For $5.00 you can help provide vital programming and services for the older adults in our community. Stop by and meet your neighbors!
This year our beloved city turns 125 years old! On April 6th the Plaza will be closed to vehicle traffic and the Birthday Celebration will begin. Music at a special stage set-up in the Plaza, food booths, a children’s activity area, and a community photo will be some of the fun events happening. Everyone is encouraged to show some true Orange spirit and wear orange colored clothing!
You may have noticed some construction near the Plaza. Here is some more information to help you navigate.
